FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kiwanis Club of Kahului Donates a Noelle Maternal and Neonatal WAILUKU, Maui, Hawaii - May 18, 2007 - Today, Maui Memorial Medical Center (MMMC) is the recipient of a Noelle Maternal and Neonatal Birthing Simulator, thanks to a $15,000.00 donation from the Kiwanis Club of Kahului via the Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation. Childbirth simulators have been an integral part of maternal and child health programs nationwide for more than 40 years. The latest comprehensive teaching system to emerge is the Noelle Maternal and Neonatal Birthing Simulator. This equipment, will be used to train MMMC medical teams that respond to neonatal emergencies, including Obstetricians, Pediatricians, Anesthesiologists, Respiratory Therapists, Emergency Department Physicians, Operating Room Staff, and Obstetrical Nursing Staff. Nine of the most common life threatening scenarios for the peri-natal patient will be programmed into the Noelle maternal and fetal mannequins, providing an interactive learning experience where participants respond as they would in real life situations. Dr. Nancy Rogers, Chairperson for the Peri-Natal Safety Committee of MMMC stated "The Noelle Simulator enables our medical teams to drill throughout the year ultimately supporting better outcomes in peri-natal emergencies which can only be achieved through practice." "Our sincere and most heartfelt thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Kahului for recognizing that life is precious and having the right tools to potentially save a newborn infants life through advanced training is invaluable to our entire community, said Ululani Correa, MMMC Foundation Executive Director. Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), tax-exempt organization that supports the health and wellness of the community of Maui and our visitors by ensuring Maui Memorial Medical Center has the resources needed to provide a higher level of medical care.
